Blessed Mhlanga bail hearing.

Blessed Mhlanga, a journalist for Alpha Media Holdings, is heading to the High Court today for a bail hearing after being denied bail by the magistrate's court.

Mhlanga was arrested on February 24 for covering a press conference where expelled Zanu PF central committee member Blessed "Bombshell "Geza criticized President Emmerson Mnangagwa for alleged corruption and misgovernance ¹.

The magistrate's court denied Mhlanga bail, citing concerns that he might interfere with witnesses. However, his lawyer, Chris Mhike, argues that there were no compelling reasons to justify Mhlanga's continued incarceration.

Mhike has filed an appeal with the High Court, seeking to overturn the magistrate's decision.

The case has drawn attention from human rights organizations and the international community.

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights has expressed support for Mhlanga, stating that journalists should be granted constitutional protections, including the right to bail and freedom of speech.

The US Embassy has also weighed in, emphasizing the importance of protecting journalists' rights .
